  THAILAND  Youths Return From WYD 2008 Energized

BANGKOK (UCAN) -- Arriving back in Bangkok after spending around two weeks in Australia, the 75-member Thai delegation to the international World Youth Day (WYD) 2008 celebration felt revitalized rather than tired.

 

"I feel like a recharged battery. My exhaustion has vanished. My life is refreshed," Busaraphan Bootsala said on July 22, the day the delegation arrived in Bangkok. UCA News interviewed her and several other delegation members then and in the following days.

 

"Before attending WYD 2008, I asked God for the grace of patience. I realized there would have to be lots of challenges," explained the 25-year-old woman from Ayutthaya, about 70 kilometers north of Bangkok.

 

Among the most memorable events for her during the July 15-20 WYD program in Sydney were the Pilgrimage Walk on July 19 and the Evening Vigil with Pope Benedict XVI that same day.

 

During the walk across Sydney Harbour Bridge to Randwick Racecourse, the "pilgrims" sang and danced, so "we joined them and sang many Thai songs," Busaraphan recalled. After the vigil, the youths slept out under the stars at the racecourse ahead of the final Mass there on Sunday July 20, she said.

 

About 30 of the Thai delegates were Karen hilltribe youths. One of them, Boonsuk Chiradej, 23, came back determined to set up a Catholic youth music ensemble.

 

He explained: "I was so surprised to see string ensembles. I have never seen youths playing such beautiful music before. Moreover, there were ensembles formed by priests from different countries."

 

The catechetical sessions gave him new insights into the Apostles' Creed and "the Holy Catholic Church."

 

"I have seen mutual international friendship. It strengthens my faith. Our host families were lovely. They treated us as if we were their children," added the young man from Chiang Mai province, northern Thailand.

 

Praise for the host families also came from Father Kriengchai Trimankha, a Bangkok archdiocesan priest who accompanied the Thai youths. "I am so impressed by the host families' generosity. They made us feel like we were living in our own homes."

 

The priest noted that all the WYD 2008 activities resonated with this year's WYD theme: "You will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you will be my witnesses" (Acts 1:8).

 

Sirikunya Makullawanichnun, 34, said "seeing a group of tribal youths receiving the Sacrament of Reconciliation" impressed her most as Thai youth coordinator. "Some Karen said they hadn't received the sacrament for five years. Most of them had forgotten how to confess. However, the Holy Spirit changed that and kindled in them the fire of God's love," she recalled.

 

Sirikunya had attended previous international WYD programs in Paris (1997), Rome (2000) and Cologne, Germany (2005).

 

Vasin Manasurangul, 24, who also attended WYD 2000 in Rome, described his opportunity to present a sharing in Pope Benedict's presence at Randwick Racecourse on July 19 as a dream came true.

 

For the occasion he shared on his WYD 2000 experience. Recalling how it affected him, he told UCA News: "(WYD 2000) absolutely changed my life. Before that, I had so many doubts and lacked faith in God. WYD 2000 converted my life, to be more faithful. Since then, I have dedicated my life to proclaiming God's love."

 

Organizers recommended that the delegates asked to share on July 19 speak in their own language. Vasin did so, but could not resist the opportunity to say something in English that the pope could understand. So he concluded his sharing by saying, "On behalf of all Thai youths, we promise you to live as good Christians," he recalled.

 

Preeyata Temtharoen, 24, was one of more than 100 delegates in the International Liturgy Group. She said she held the Thai flag during the opening Mass on July 15, at which Cardinal George Pell of Sydney presided, and read an intercessory prayer in Thai during a ceremony to welcome the pope on July 17.

 

In her view, participation in WYD celebrations has been a kind of "miracle" for her family. Before she became a WYD delegate, she said, her brother-in-law attended the 1993 celebration in Denver, the United States, and her sister went to WYD 2000 in Rome.

  Thánh lễ Thêm Sức tại giáo xứ Thái Nguyên, Bắc Ninh

BẮC NINH -- Sáng ngày 29/07/2008, tại thánh đường Giuse giáo họ Oánh, thuộc giáo xứ Thái Nguyên, Đức tổng giám mục Giuse Ngô Quang Kiệt đă chủ tế thánh lễ ban Bí Tích Thêm Sức cho hơn 300 em thiếu nhi gồm giáo xứ Thái Nguyên, Yên Thuỷ và Bắc Kạn.

 

Hôm nay là ngày hội, ngày Thiên Chúa thi ân cho các em, những người sắp lănh nhận ấn tín và hồng ân của Chúa Thánh Thần. V́ thế, từ rất sớm các em ở những giáo xứ xa như Bắc Kạn, Yên Thuỷ đă phải lặn lội từ 40 đến 80 km để kịp đến trước giờ thánh lễ. Trên gương mặt các em lộ rơ niềm vui sướng, v́ đây cũng là thành quả đánh giá việc học tập và cố gắng sau những năm tháng miệt mài học giáo lư.

 

Đúng 9 h, phái đoàn đă về đến giáo xứ. Phái đoàn gồm có: Đức Tổng Giám Mục Giuse Ngô Quang Kiệt, giám quản giáo phận Bắc Ninh, cha Đại Diện giáo phận: Giuse Trần Quang Vinh, quí cha và quí thầy. Niềm vui, niềm mong ngóng vị chủ chăn về với đoàn chiên hôm nay như bị vỡ oà hoà trong tiếng chuông nhà thờ đổ, tiếng kèn đồng, tiếng reo ḥ, vỗ tay của bà con giáo dân. Cha xứ Phanxicô Nguyễn Đức Đại đă tiến ra chào đón ngài và phái đoàn.

 

Lúc 9h 15, đoàn rước đoàn nghi lễ từ từ tiến vào nhà thờ trong tiếng kèn đồng hùng tráng. Ḷng nhà thờ hôm nay chỉ được dành riêng cho các em chuẩn bị lănh nhận bí tích Thêm Sức. Tất cả các em đều trong trang phục áo trắng quần sẫm màu, đem khăn vai màu đỏ với h́nh thập giá, đứng theo hàng ngũ đă được sắp xếp, xen kẽ là những màu áo xanh của các anh chị huynh trưởng và giáo lư viên. Điều này cho thấy thánh lễ hôm nay đă được tập dượt và chuẩn bị thật chu đáo.

 

Bên ngoài nhà thờ, dưới cái nắng nóng nực của mùa hè, nhưng có rất đông đảo bà con giáo dân trú dưới bạt, hoặc dưới ô che để tham dự thánh lễ. Trong bài giảng thánh lễ, Đức Tổng Giám Mục Giuse đă đặc biệt nhắn nhủ các em thiếu nhi: “Hôm nay các con lănh nhận bí tích Thêm Sức đó là dấu hiệu cho biết các con đă trưởng thành trong đời sống đức tin. Các con sẽ tuyên xưng đức tin của ḿnh và nhận lấy Chúa Thánh Thần. Lănh nhận bí tích Thêm Sức, nhận lấy Chúa Thánh Thần c̣n mang một ư nghĩa khác, đó là các con phải ra đi làm chứng cho Chúa. Các con không phải chỉ c̣n đi lễ, đi đọc kinh, hay học giáo lư nữa nhưng là phải biết làm chứng bằng đời sống tốt của các con nơi trường học: phải là những người con ngoan, tṛ giỏi, những người bạn tốt; trong xă hội, các con phải sống tốt với mọi người. Làm sao các con đi đâu là đem b́nh an của người Công Giáo tới đó. Không bao giờ gây chia rẽ, oán thù, đánh nhau, căi nhau, trái lại luôn đem t́nh yêu thương, yêu mến đến với mọi người. Đặc biệt, luôn trân trọng những người tàn tật, kém may mắn trên đời. Người đời thường chạy theo những người có của, có tiền, người Công Giáo hăy biết yêu mến những người nghèo hèn nhất, bé nhỏ nhất. Chúng ta hăy xin Chúa Thánh Thần xuống trên tất cả mọi người để chúng ta biết kết hợp sống tốt cả trong nhà thờ và ngoài xă hội, để tất cả trở nên chứng nhân của Chúa”.

 

Trong thánh lễ, các em chịu phép Thêm Sức được tham gia các công việc, như: giúp lễ, đọc sách thánh, hát đáp ca, đọc lời nguyện, dâng của lễ và các bài hát cộng đồng. Thánh lễ diễn ra trang nghiêm, sốt sắng. Cảm động hơn đó là phần các em tiến lên, tay cầm nến cháy để lănh nhận ấn tín ơn Chúa Thánh Thần qua việc xức dầu thánh.

 

Thánh lễ kết thúc lúc 11h, cuối thánh lễ, một em đă đại diện cho hơn 300 em bày tỏ ḷng biết ơn, niềm vui sướng của ḿnh lên Đức Tổng Giám Mục, cha Đại Diện, quí cha, thầy, sơ, các anh chị giáo lư viên, quí ban giáo xứ, ban hành giáo, các ban ngành và toàn thể cộng đoàn đă hiện diện trong thánh lễ cầu cho các em.

 

Ngày mai các em sẽ ra đi vào ḍng đời: là gia đ́nh, nhà trường, ngơ xóm… mang theo ḿnh những hồng ân đặc biệt mà hôm nay Chúa Thánh Thần ban tặng. Lời mời gọi và nhiệm vụ mới sẽ theo ngay bên: các em hăy trở nên những chiến sĩ chứng nhân cho t́nh yêu của Chúa; hăy sống, hăy làm và hăy nói những ǵ các em đă được học và được Chúa Thánh Thần thúc bách.

  3000 giáo lư viên giáo phận Bà Rịa họp mặt tại Đền Thánh Đức Mẹ Băi Dâu

ĐỨC MẸ BĂI DÂU - Với tự sắc Ad Aptius Consulendum được Đức Thánh Cha Benedict XVI kư ngày 22 tháng 11 năm 2005 tại Vatican, lệnh truyền tách hẳn địa giới hành chính tỉnh Bà Rịa – Vũng Tàu khỏi giáo phận Xuân Lộc và trở thành giáo phận Bà Rịa, giáo phận thứ 26 của Giáo hội Việt Nam, đồng thời bổ nhiệm Đức cha Thomas Nguyễn Văn Trâm làm Giám mục tiên khởi của giáo phận Bà Rịa.

 

Ngày 05/12/2005, hàng chục ngàn giáo dân, hằng trăm chủng sinh, tu sĩ nam nữ và 33 vị Hồng Y, Tổng Giám mục, Giám mục, Đức Viện Phụ, Đức Ông của Việt Nam mà dẫn đầu là Đức Hồng Y tổng trưởng Crescenzio Sepe cùng phái đoàn Ṭa Thánh được sự ủy nhiệm của Đức Giáo Hoàng đến nhà thờ chính ṭa Bà Rịa công bố tự sắc chia giáo phận và bổ nhiệm Đức cha Thomas Nguyễn Văn Trâm (sau 13 năm là Giám mục phụ tá giáo phận Xuân Lộc) trở thành Giám mục chánh ṭa tiên khởi.

 

Từ những biến cố đó, giáo phận Bà Rịa thành h́nh. Đức cha Thomas đặc biệt quan tâm đến việc dạy giáo lư, đào tạo các chủng sinh, huấn luyện giới trẻ…Ngài thường xuyên gặp gỡ các giới, các hội đoàn, mà đặc biệt là “cánh tay phải nối dài” của ngài – các Giáo Lư Viên (GLV) giáo phận.

 

Như thông lệ hằng năm, cứ đến ngày Lễ kính Chân phước tử đạo Anrê Phú Yên, Đức Giám Mục giáo phận lại gửi lời mời đến toàn thể các GLV trong giáo phận về tham dự Đại hội GLV cử hành tại Đền Thánh Đức Mẹ Băi Dâu. Dịp Đại hội cũng là cơ hội đặc biệt trong năm quy tụ tất cả các GLV tại tất cả các giáo xứ, giáo hạt trong giáo phận lại với nhau, là cơ hội để gặp gỡ vị cha chung giáo phận, nghe huấn từ của ngài và, đặc biệt, trao bằng GLV cấp III cho các bạn GLV tham dự khóa huấn luyện Ra Khơi mùa hè của giáo phận.

 

GLV giáo phận Bà Rịa hầu hết ở trong độ tuổi rất trẻ. Trong số tham dự Đại hội GLV 2008 năm nay vào ngày 27.7.2008, có nhiều những GLV cấp III có năm sinh trong khoảng từ 1994 đến 1992.

 

7h30 sáng, hơn 3000 GLV của 4 giáo hạt Long Hương, Phước Lễ, Vũng Tàu, B́nh Giă thuộc giáo phận Bà Rịa đă tề tựu từ khắp nơi về Đền Thánh Đức Mẹ Băi Dâu, một trung tâm hành hương nổi tiếng được khắp nơi biết đến. Đền Thánh Đức Mẹ Băi Dâu, hiện do cha John Baptist Nguyễn Văn Bộ làm giám đốc, gồm một khu phức hợp nhiều văn pḥng của giáo phận và các Ḍng tu trải dài từ chân núi lên đến sườn núi. Với địa h́nh đặc thù và khí hậu biển mát mẻ kết hợp giữa rừng, núi và biển đă tạo thành điểm nhấn cho Trung tâm hành hương Đền Thánh Đức Mẹ Băi Dâu cũng như Tượng đài Chúa Kitô Vua ở Tao Phùng.

 

Các GLV được đón tiếp tại nhà ṿm, phía bên nhà khách của Băi Dâu. Nơi đây vẫn thường đón tiếp và là chỗ nghỉ cho các Hồng Y, Tổng Giám Mục, Giám Mục khi tham dự Hội nghị thường niên của Hội Đồng Giám Mục Việt Nam đă nhiều lần được tổ chức tại Đền Thánh Đức Mẹ Băi Dâu.

 

Là Chúa Nhật nên khách hành hương thập phương đến Băi Dâu rất đông nhưng thấy và biết hôm nay là ngày đặc biệt của các GLV nên tất cả đều vui vẻ rời khỏi nhà thờ Mẹ Thiên Chúa đi lên phía núi và linh đài Đức Mẹ nhường chỗ cho các GLV. Một số đông khách hành hương ngồi lại 2 bên hông nhà thờ để cùng tham dự với các GLV cũng như hiệp thông trong Thánh Lễ sắp diễn ra.

 

9h30, Đức cha Thomas Nguyễn Văn Trâm – Giám mục chánh ṭa tiên khởi giáo phận Bà Rịa tiến vào nhà thờ cùng với các cha đặc trách huấn giáo trong giáo phận. Khi Đức cha Trâm huấn dụ các GLV, ngài tŕnh bày về một xă hội tiêu thụ, thực dụng, tục hóa, một xă hội cần nhiều ḷng quảng đại và phục vụ, ngài ưu tư việc nhiều em nhỏ tại các giáo xứ chưa được dạy giáo lư. Ngài đề cao sứ mệnh giảng dạy giáo lư của các GLV, ngài cũng đề cập đến Đại hội Giới trẻ Thế giới (WYD) vừa diễn ra từ 15 đến 20 tháng 07 tại Sydney – Australia. Ngài lặp lại lời Đức Thánh Cha Benedict XVI: “Các con có đang sống đời ḿnh trong một cách thế mở ra không gian cho Thánh Thần Chúa giữa ḷng một thế giới muốn quên đi Thiên Chúa, hay thậm chí phủ nhận Ngài dựa trên một cảm nhận sai lầm về tự do ?! Các con để lại cho thế hệ tương lai một di sản nào ? Các con tạo nên được sự khác biệt nào ? Trong ḷng nhiều người sống trong xă hội chúng ta, bên cạnh sự thịnh vượng vật chất là sự lan rộng của sa mạc tâm linh, một sự trống rỗng nội tâm, nỗi sợ không tên và, một cảm thức lặng lẽ của tuyệt vọng.”

 

Ngài kêu gọi các GLV tái khám phá Đức Kitô bằng việc kín múc từ viễn tượng phong phú của đức tin được các chứng nhân tử đạo để lại.

 

10h00, Thánh lễ đồng tế do Đức cha Trâm chủ sự cùng 10 linh mục gồm cha Tổng đại diện Paul Nguyễn Hữu Thời, cha giám đốc Đền Thánh Đức Mẹ Băi Dâu Nguyễn Văn Bộ cùng các cha đặc trách huấn giáo trong toàn giáo phận. Đức cha Thomas Nguyễn Văn Trâm giảng lễ. Bài giảng nhấn mạnh đến đức tin hào hùng mà hơn 114.000 vị tử đạo Việt Nam đă hy sinh để minh chứng, đặc biệt là vị tử đạo tiên khởi Anrê Phú Yên. Đức cha cũng đề cập đến WYD 2008 Sydney, ngài kêu mời các GLV ra đi làm muối cho đời, làm ánh sáng cho thế gian.

 

Thánh lễ kết thúc lúc 11h30. Sau Thánh lễ, mưa nhẹ rơi, các bạn GLV được hướng dẫn ăn trưa và nghỉ ngơi tại nhà ṿm, phần giao lưu văn nghệ có đại diện của các giáo hạt và 2 ca sỹ Công giáo nổi tiếng Phi Nguyễn, Kim Cúc tham gia và một nhạc phẩm đặc biệt do Linh mục Anthony Nguyễn Văn Toàn (chánh xứ Quảng Nghệ) tŕnh bày.

 

Từ 12h00 đến 13h50, mưa rất nặng hạt. 15h00 chiều, nghi thức chia tay diễn ra, các bạn GLV ra về trong niềm vui được sai đi rao giảng Tin Mừng đến tận cùng thế giới, được sai đi làm muối ướp đời, làm men thấm đất, làm ánh sáng chiếu soi gian trần.

 

Đại hội lần III kỳ 2008 kết thúc tốt đẹp và ghi đậm dấu trong ḷng các GLV giáo phận Bà Rịa.

  LỜI CÁM ƠN CỦA PHÁI ĐOÀN GIỚI TRẺ TỪ VIỆT NAM THAM DỰ WYD2008 SYDNEY

Trong những ngày vừa qua, phái đoàn Việt Nam khoảng 500 thành viên, gồm các Linh mục, Tu sĩ và các Bạn trẻ đă được tham dự Đại Hội Giới Trẻ Thế Giới lần thứ XXIII tại Sydney, Úc Châu. Các tham dự viên đến từ Việt Nam đă được hoà chung niềm vui với các Bạn trẻ đến từ năm Châu, quây quần bên Đức Thánh Cha để tuyên xưng đức tin, biểu lộ sức trẻ và hướng về tương lai của Giáo Hội.

 

Phái đoàn Việt Nam cũng hân hạnh được gặp gỡ và giao lưu với Quư Cha, Quư Tu sĩ và các Bạn Trẻ gốc Việt đang sinh sống tại nhiều nước khác nhau trên thế giới. Cuộc gặp gỡ lịch sử này đă giúp mọi người hiểu biết nhau hơn, trong t́nh thân thiện đồng bào và trong cùng một Đức tin Công giáo.

 

Đại Hội Giới Trẻ đă khép lại, nhưng dư âm của Đại Hội cùng với những kỷ niệm sâu lắng c̣n đọng lại nơi các tham dự viên. Với tác động của Chúa Thánh Thần, hầu hết các Bạn trẻ đă tham dự Đại Hội đều cảm thấy gần gũi Giáo Hội và yêu mến Giáo Hội hơn, như lời mời gọi của Đức Thánh Cha: “Các con thân mến, Chúa mời gọi các con  hăy trở nên những ngôn sứ của kỷ nguyên mới này, trở nên những sứ giả loan báo t́nh yêu của Ngài, để có thể lôi cuốn nhiều người đến cùng Chúa Cha và để xây dựng một tương lai tràn đầy hy vọng cho cả nhân loại ” (Trích bài giảng Thánh lễ bế mạc).

 

Trong thời gian lưu lại tại Úc Châu, phái đoàn Việt Nam đă được đón tiếp nồng hậu, chu đáo và thân t́nh, đồng thời được tham dự những sinh hoạt của Ban Tổ Chức WYD của Việt Nam.

Thank you Sydney.

 

While Sydneysiders took the young pilgrims to their hearts, so did the pilgrims with Sydney.  They are taking away precious memories of our beautiful city, but, more importantly, memories of the thousands of staff and volunteers who worked hard and the thousands of passersby who went out of their way to help.

 

I had breakfast with a group from Kalamazoo, Michigan and one veteran of many WYDs complimented me on the quality of the organization and claimed Sydney was the most friendly he had attended.

 

78% of Sydneysiders in a recent poll felt that the organizers led by Bishop Fisher and Danny Casey did a good job and this majority verdict was justified.  71% thought WYD was a good thing for Sydney and only 12% said it was bad.

 

An even higher percentage, 81%, agreed it was good to see so many young people enjoying themselves.

 

Christianity makes a difference to daily living; and for the better.  This is one reason why the followers of Christ have increased and multiplied across the world for nearly 2000 years.

 

WYD enabled us to restate our central claims in dramatic fashion.  Our first task is to present Jesus Christ, his teachings and his followers who make up the Church.  This is the core.

 

A few Protestants even commented to me that they were surprised to find how Christ-centred Catholics are.  The Way the Cross, the dramatic representation of Christ’s last hours, was adapted slightly so that it was completely Scripture-based.  This fidelity to Scripture was essential to its success.

 

The coverage by the Telegraph papers and The Australian was first rate, presenting not only the personality of Pope Benedict, but what he had to say.  While not a great public orator, he is an outstanding teacher and his speeches bear rereading and study.  His quiet personality reveals a good and decent man, at peace with himself and the world around him.  People said they felt he was talking to them personally.

 

I have celebrated Mass in many different situations, occasionally even when the congregation becomes distracted and even noisy.  One small miracle was that at all the great gatherings, each with congregations of 150,000 or more, there were long periods when you could have heard a pin drop.  Tens and tens of thousands of young pilgrims, most of them Aussies at the weekend, praying silently.  To those who claim it couldn’t have been so, I say “ask someone who was there”.

 

Pope Benedict was delighted, grateful for all the official and public kindness he received and possibly a bit surprised by the depths of faith he encountered.

It was a marvellous, life-giving celebration.  It won’t be back again in Sydney for at least a generation – if ever.  Far after my time.

  Refused Entry Visas For Australia, Ethnic Youth Celebrate WYD With Prayer Gathering

PLEIKU, Vietnam (UCAN) -- Religious in Vietnam's central highlands organized a prayer gathering for ethnic-minority youths, many of whom were denied visas to enter Australia, so they could be in communion with World Youth Day (WYD) in Sydney.

 

Redemptorist Father Pierre Tran Sy Tin told UCA News that Australian authorities refused entry visas to 51 young members of local ethnic-minority groups who applied to attend the July 15-20 WYD in Sydney. The authorities feared these poor youth might try to stay and work in Australia, he added.

 

Father Tin, head of Ploichuet Evangelization Center in Pleiku city, 1,200 kilometers south of Ha Noi, noted that the local Church was ready to cover all expenses for these youths were they granted entry visas.

 

The priest, who has worked with local ethnic-minority groups for 40 years, said Redemptorists had expected to lead young members of these groups to WYD so they could share their personal experience of God with other youths from around the world.

 

They decided not to attend after the ethnic youths were refused visas, he continued.

 

Father Tin, 68, said they decided to hold a youth gathering at his center instead. Two thousand young people -- Bahnar, Jarai and Stieng as well as ethnic-majority Kinh -- from parishes or mission stations Redemptorists run in Gia Lai province attended the July 19-20 event.

 

Redemptorist Father Pierre Tran Cong Vang, an organizer, told UCA News the goal was to help local youths be in communion with foreign youths at the WYD.

 

Father Vang said the gathering also was an opportunity for local ethnic-minority youths to meet, make friends and confirm their traditional values and dignity. Ethnic people develop a complex regarding their poverty and poor education because others treat them without respect, he noted.

 

The 57-year-old priest said Kinh people should respect other people's dignity so that all ethnic communities can live in harmony.

 

Father Tin and five other priests concelebrated the opening Mass in Bahnar, Jarai and Vietnamese at the Ploichuet Church, which incorporates architectural features of traditional ethnic-minority houses. Minority youths played gongs and their traditional instruments.

 

Participants then divided into groups to share faith experiences and discuss challenges facing their faith life as well as ways to bear witness to Jesus' love.

 

Father Tin briefed the young people about the pope's messages and ongoing activities in Sydney, which local priests and Religious followed on the Internet. The area does not have cable television.

 

Catherine Siu H'ly, 24, one of those denied a visa to enter Australia, told UCA News she did not regret not attending the WYD, because she took part in the local youth gathering. "It is God's will," she noted.

H'ly, a Jarai student, shared that she feels the love of God, who sends Redemptorists to serve her village. They teach catechism and offer scholarships for ethnic-minority children, she added.

 

Maria Le Thi Hong Hanh, 24, who walks with a crutch, said she suffers from bone cancer. "I trust in God's love and hope benefactors help cover my cost of treatment," she noted, saying she prayed to the Spirit for strength to bear witness to God's love.

 

Siu Nhan suggested rural people could witness to God by living a simple life, working hard and helping one another with farming work.

 

An evening cultural performance had the theme Bridge of Love. The youths danced and sang songs to the sounds of gongs. The Catholic band Lua Hong (red flame) and Catholic singers from Sai Gon City also performed.

Bishop Michael Hoang Duc Oanh of Kontum, dressed in traditional Jarai attire, played drum and sang the song In God's big heart.

 

The following day, at the closing Mass outside the church, the bishop urged local youths to let "the Spirit lead your faith life." He also asked each of them to bring at least one person to the Church every year.

 

Francis H'rui told UCA News he made friends with many people at the gathering and felt no gap between them. "I am proud that I am a Bahnar," he stated.

 

This gathering was the first in the region to draw such a large number of youths from so many local ethnic-minority groups.

  WYD attracts 6,000 in Iraq

After Australian authorities refused visas for most Iraqi pilgrims, the country's Chaldean Catholic bishops decided to organised their own World Youth Day program in northern Iraq.

 

Catholic News Service reports the bishops organised processions, catechesis, the Way of the Cross and Masses in several northern Iraqi cities.

 

More than 6,600 Iraqi youths participated in the alternative World Youth Day.

 

Chaldean Archbishop Louis Sako of Kirkuk, Iraq, invited Lebanese Capuchin Fr Joseph Azzo to travel to Iraq for the July 16-20 gatherings. Fr Azzo invited Lebanese singer Abir Nehme to accompany him; both spoke to Catholic News Service when they returned to Lebanon.

 

Even a day before their departure from Lebanon on July 14, the small entourage of Fr Azzo and musicians still did not have the needed funds for their airfare to Iraq. Fr Azzo said he prayed and, "miraculously, three benefactors came through just in time to pay" for a large portion of the trip, Fr Azzo told Catholic News Service.

 

Nehme, a 26 year old Maronite Catholic, said it was her dream "to go and see the Christians of Iraq and to do something for them."

 

"Music is my life, so this is all I know to do: to use my voice to give them hope, to send a message of love and peace," she told CNS.

 

"By chance, all the details for us to go worked out, as if God had prepared the way," she said, adding that she was not afraid about venturing into Iraq. "Whatever would happen there, I would be ready." Fr Azzo is no stranger to Iraq. The 42 year old Chaldean Capuchin had visited 11 times before to preach to Iraqi Christians.

 

"I am just a little priest, a slave of Jesus. If I can bring hope, it will be the Holy Spirit working through me. I think Jesus will do something great," he said before he left for Iraq.

 

Nehme said the experience was totally different than she had imagined.

 

Iraqi Christians "have so much love to give, so much innocence. So much purity," she said. "They believe in tomorrow in a way that's amazing. They believe that tomorrow is a better day.

 

"You always see death and pain on TV's images of Iraq. We saw that. But we also saw peace, joy, hope, singing, music and living faith," Nehme said. "We saw a huge amount of young people who still want to change the world. It was a completely different image of what you see in the media. They don't show what is good, they show only what is awful."

 

The experience, the singer said, "has put more faith and peace inside of me, but also more anger toward war."

 

Nehme performed traditional Maronite and Syriac hymns and praise songs.

 

"The bishops, priests and all the people were so happy to see us and hear Abir Nehme sing, also. Through her voice, she gave them joy, peace, love and hope, which the Iraqi people so desperately need," Father Azzo said.

 

Nehme, who has performed all over the world, said she has had "many concerts in the Middle East where Christians are a minority. But this was an even more important experience because the Iraqi Christians are so amazing with the deepness of their faith."

 

The celebrations culminated with a Mass celebrated by Archbishop Sako at the Church of the Sacred Heard in Kirkuk July 20. It was attended by about 2,000 Iraqi youth. Father Azzo gave the homily and Nehme performed the music.

 

"People told us it was like a big Easter Mass, like the Resurrection," said Father Azzo. "It was a two and a half-hour Mass, but people kept asking us to continue with prayers, they didn't want it to end." Father Azzo said he hopes to organise more missions to visit Iraqi Christians.

 

"Their greatest need is peace and love," he said. "Especially peace."

  Vài con số về Ngày Quốc Tế Giới Trẻ 2008 tại Sydney

Ngày Quốc tế Giới Trẻ tại Sydney vừa kết thúc (15-20 tháng 7), ban tổ chức đă công bố vài con số như sau:

 

Trong tuần lễ cử hành Ngày Quốc Tế Giới Trẻ tại các giáo phận toàn nước Úc, đă có 70 ngàn bạn trẻ nước ngoài tham dự những sinh hoạt tại các địa phương khác nhau.

 

Trong ngày chính thức đón tiếp Đức Thánh Cha đến với Ngày Quốc Tế Giới Trẻ, tức ngày 17 tháng 7, đă có 500 ngàn người tham dự vào biến cố. Và có 150 ngàn người tham dự Thánh Lễ khai mạc tại Bến Cảng Barangoroo, Sydney.

 

Các tham dự viên Ngày Quốc Tế Giới Trẻ đến từ 170 quốc gia. Và trong nghi thức rước quốc kỳ trước Thánh Lễ khai mạc, có 168 lá cờ đă được rước lên khán đài.

 

Có khoảng 500 triệu người theo dơi những sinh hoạt của Ngày Quốc Tế Giới Trẻ qua hệ thống truyền h́nh. Nếu tính chung con số những ai theo dơi qua phương tiện Internet, th́ con số có thể lên đến khoảng một tỉ người.

 

Có tất cả 2 ngàn tổ chức hoặc cơ quan truyền thông xă hội đăng kư tham dự ngày Quốc Tế Giới Trẻ.

Trong Tuần Lễ cử hành Ngày Quốc Tế Giới Trẻ, chương tŕnh sinh hoạt văn hoá- gọi là “Lễ Hội Giới Trẻ” (Youth Festival) - được tŕnh diễn tại 100 địa điểm khắp nước Úc, với 450 lần tŕnh diễn.

 

Tại thành phố Sydney, địa điểm chính của Ngày Quốc Tế Giới Trẻ, các bài giáo lư đă được diễn giảng tại 235 địa điểm, bằng 29 ngôn ngữ khác nhau.

 

Ca đoàn tổng hợp của Ngày Quốc Tế Giới Trẻ gồm có 300 ca viên, với dàn nhạc gồm có 80 nhạc cụ.

 

Trong suốt tuần cử hành Ngày Quốc Tế Giới Trẻ, có một ngàn linh mục ban bí tích hoà giải cho các tín hữu. Thánh Giá Ngày Giới Trẻ và Bức Hiện Ảnh Đức Mẹ đă được rước đến 400 cộng đoàn trên khắp nước Úc, trong ṿng 12 tháng trước ngày khai mạc.

 

Có 100 ngàn khách hành hương được đón tiếp tạm trú tại 400 giáo xứ và trường học; và có 12 ngàn khách hành hương tạm trú tại Công Viên Olympic Sydney.

 

Có tất cả 8 ngàn thiện nguyện viên giúp ban tổ chức Ngày Quốc Tế Giới Trẻ. Có tất cả 26 vị Hồng y, 420 giám mục và 4 ngàn linh mục và thầy sáu tham dự Ngày Quốc Tế Giới Trẻ.

 

Có 235 ngàn người tham dự Buổi Canh Thức Chiều Tối Thứ Bảy 19/7 tại địa điểm Trường Đua Ngựa. Sau đó, 200 ngàn người ở lại tại chỗ qua đêm, để chờ tham dự Thánh Lễ Bế Mạc vào sáng Chúa Nhật 20 tháng 7.

 

Và có 400 ngàn người tham dự Thánh lễ Bế Mạc ngày Quốc Tế Giới Trẻ.

 

Đặc biệt, Ngày Quốc Tế Giới Trẻ Sydney được đặt dưới sự bảo trợ thiêng liêng của 10 vị thánh, chân phước và đầy tớ Chúa, như sau: Thánh Têrêsa Hài Đồng Giêsu, Thánh Faustina Kowalska, thánh Maria Goretti, Thánh Pietro Chanal, Chân phước Peter To Rot, chân phước Mary MacKillop, chân phước Pier Giorgio Frassati, chân phước Mẹ Têrêsa Calcutta, Đầy Tớ Chúa giáo hoàng Gioan Phaolô II, và cuối cùng là Đức Mẹ Maria dưới tước hiệu “Đức Bà của Thập Giá miền Nam”.

  Weekly Sunday Telegraph column: World Youth Day – Days to remember

This is a good time to be Catholic. Tens of thousands of happy young people make the rest of the population happy too.

 

I had been to three previous World Youth Days and I knew the mix works.  And it has in Sydney.

 

All Sydney, and not just Catholic Sydney, has taken the pilgrims to their hearts.  Pilgrims have told me personally how Sydneysiders, often not Catholics, have gone out of their way to help, such as the Islamic school which provided accommodation for a significant group from the USA.

 

So far the weather has been almost perfect. This pleased me because some of the Vatican officials when we placed our bid were skeptical of our claims about Sydney’s July winter!

 

For anyone part of the team running such a huge operation, such a long series of events provides something of an emotional roller coaster.

 

The police have done a great job as I always thought they would.  Whatever the dependencies of the special legislation I was confident the police would use common sense and tact. 

 

The contrast was stark between the wild enthusiasm of the 500,000 who turned out to welcome Pope Benedict on Thursday and the reenactment on Friday of Christ’s last hours.

 

Sydney harbor in the sunshine is a magnificent sight. Vancouver or Cape Town might be sight rivals but as the flotilla of ships carried the Pope to the official welcome, the foreign visitors commented that few cities could offer a comparable approach.

 

A young aboriginal man, feeling cold in his traditional dress, explained his story to the Holy Father as we passed huge crowds at Mrs. Macquarie’s Point, Farm Cove and the majestic Opera House.  At Rose Bay the local indigenous leaders had welcomed the Pope to this land.

 

150,000 were on shore at Barangaroo or on ships moored there and they participated enthusiastically; but the prayer was genuine too.  With immense crowds you can feel the silence of prayer.

 

The WYD theme song composed by Guy Sebastian and Gary Pinto had always been special to me and the way it was sung at the welcome with tens of thousand swinging their body and arms to the chorus was a resounding vindication of the choice.

 

We all remember special melodies and smells from our childhood which evoke beautiful memories.  I shall never hear the Sydney WYD song without remembering the joy and excitement of Thursday night.

 

Naturally it was a first to travel in the Mercedes Popemobile with the Holy Father.  Kilometre after kilometre of excited young adults, youngsters too, running and waving behind the crowds, trying to keep up.  It was a tonic.

 

Nearly everyone near the route seemed to have new cameras, enabling them to check success or failure immediately.  A stray flag ruined the hard work of one young man on his mate’s shoulders.  I saw another exulting because he had succeeded.

 

They are days to remember.

  Thông cáo báo chí về lễ bế mạc ngày Quốc Tế Giới Trẻ tại Sydney

Tại cuộc họp báo tại WYD International Media Centre vào 3:45 chiều nay, Chúa Nhật 20/7/2008, ban tổ chức cho biết có 400,000 bạn trẻ đă đến dự Thánh Lễ Bế Mạc diễn ra vào 10 giờ sáng cùng ngày.

 

Thông cáo ghi nhận: “Sau một tuần lễ cử hành khắp Sydney, các nhà tổ chức WYD ở cấp địa phương đă xúc động với sự hiện diện của 400,000 bạn trẻ tại trường đua Randwick ngày hôm nay”.

 

Trưởng ban điều hành Danny Casey cho rằng World Youth Day tại Sydney là một thành công cho thành phố này cũng như cho Giáo Hội Công Giáo tại Australia.

 

“Thật là một cảnh ngoạn mục khi thấy hơn 400,000 bạn trẻ đă dự thánh lễ trong một ngày Chúa Nhật có bầu trời xám xịt”.

 

“Chắc chắn chưa có một thánh lễ Công Giáo nào đông đảo như thế đă được cử hành ở đất nước này”

 

Trong suốt tuần qua, mưa dai dẳng tại hầu hết thủ phủ các tiểu bang trên toàn quốc Úc Đại Lợi. Thậm chí tại Perth, một cơn băo đă làm thiệt hại tới hơn 24,000 nóc gia. Nhưng Sydney lại hưởng một tuần nắng ấm.

 

Bất cứ cơn mưa nào diễn ra hôm thứ Ba, thứ Năm, thứ Sáu, thứ Bẩy và Chúa Nhật đều gây ảnh hưởng nghiêm trọng đến các sinh hoạt của ngày Quốc Tế Giới Trẻ. May thay, không có một cơn mưa nào trong những ngày qua.

 

Hơn 200,000 bạn trẻ đă ngủ lại đêm sau nghi thức canh thức diễn ra hôm thứ Bẩy.

 

Đức Thánh Cha đă gọi Australia là “Mảnh Đất Phương Nam Bao La của Chúa Thánh Linh”. Ngài đă nhiệt liệt vẫy tay chào các bạn trẻ đang nhiệt t́nh chào đón ngài khi ngài di chuyển chung quanh một biển người khổng lồ.

 

Đức Thánh Cha đă cám ơn thành phố Sydney và loan báo lần Đại Hội Giới Trẻ sắp tới sẽ diễn ra năm 2011 tại Madrid, Tây Ban Nha.

 

Lm Mark Podesta, phát ngôn viên WYD 08, người được đồng tế với Đức Thánh Cha trong thánh lễ bế mạc cho rằng WYD là một tuần lễ “Không thể nào quên”.

 

Sau khi cử hành thánh lễ ban phép lành cho những t́nh nguyện viên vào sáng Thứ Hai 21/7, lúc 10h sáng Đức Thánh Cha sẽ ra phi trường Sydney, đón máy bay cuả hăng Hàng Không Quantas về lại Rôma.

  VIETNAM Parish Audio Program Provides Church Knowledge For Catholics

GIONG RIENG, Vietnam (UCAN) -- Maria Ho Thanh Thao tries to arrive at her parish church early for catechism class so she can listen to an audio program played over the loudspeakers in the church compound.

 

"I love the program, which helps me remember catechism lessons and saints' stories," Thao, 15, m7told UCA News in June. She retells saints' stories, hymns and prayers to her young nephews and nieces at her home, since they do not have children's books.

 

The tenth-grader said she cannot hear the program clearly from home, two kilometers from the Hoa Hung parish church, since it is played only over the church speakers. The parish is in Kien Giang province's Giong Rieng district, 2,020 kilometers south of Ha Noi.

 

Providence Sister Jeanne Francoise Nguyen Thi Phan, one of two nuns in charge of producing the audio program, told UCA News they record the program on Tuesday and play it before morning and evening Masses on Wednesdays, Thursdays and Sundays. Two local catechists and seven children help the nuns edit and record the program, she added.

 

According to Sister Phan, 73, who has been working on the project since 2005, the 30-minute program includes Sunday readings, reflections, the Bible, hymns, answers to listeners' questions, saints' stories, quizzes and children's prayers.

 

In the last two years, they have been using a computer to record the program. Before that, they used to do it live.

 

Sister Phan said they offer notebooks and pens to local children who send the nicest prayers or answer Bible quizzes from the program.

 

The sister said the program interests local children and encourages them to attend catechism classes. Many teenagers from poor families have to drop out of catechism studies since they work and help their families, she noted.

 

The nun added that the program also inspired five women to have joined her congregation since Father Vincent Nguyen The Khanh launched the program in 1991. Father Khanh was pastor of Hoa Hung parish until he was assigned to Phu Hoa parish on June 11 this year.

 

Marie Chau Cam Tu, 15, prefers listening to the Church audio program more than the local government-run radio program. "I love most Lenten hymns from the parish program," she told UCA News.

 

Phan Nhat Tai, 14, a catechism student, credits the program with teaching him about saints and providing other examples of generosity, kindness, love and charity. The boy told UCA News he also asks the program to broadcast hymns as gifts for his parents on their birthdays, since he does not have money to buy flowers or gifts.

 

Pierre Nguyen Hoang Teo, a catechist, told UCA News those who live near or regularly come to the church and listen to the audio program perform well in catechism classes. Teo, who is in charge of the program's Sunday readings, said he reads the Bible and prays every day.

 

Anna Tran Manh Uyen, who reads out children's prayers for the program, told UCA News, "I love my work because I read many nice prayers from my friends," who pray for their parents' health, harmony in families and their studies.

 

Anna Bui Truc Ly, said the audio program benefits her 17-year-old son, who reads out saints' stories. "My son regularly reads the Bible and attends Mass and catechism class, which he did not do before," she told UCA News. She said she is happy her son wants to be a priest in the future.

 

According to Ly, 38, the program also helps local children avoid spending too much time playing electronic games or watching television.

 

Father Khanh, 58, told UCA News the program reminds local Catholic children about Church feasts, and to attend daily Mass and catechism classes, while also communicating God's word to Catholics in general and people of other religions in the area.

 

According to the priest, many followers of other religions appreciate the program and have asked him for copies of the Bible.

 

New pastor Father Thomas Nguyen Hoang Phuong told UCA News he would maintain the audio program. He recalled many local Catholics asked him about it after dry-season power outages prevented the broadcasts July 6-15.

 

The parish has 4,000 Catholics in a total population of 20,000.

  Freedom and tolerance cannot be separated from the truth, Benedict XVI warns Sydney

Over half a million people gathered at Sydney Harbor on Thursday to welcome Pope Benedict to World Youth Day and listen to his message. The Pontiff challenged the youth to not separate freedom and tolerance from the truth.

 

Analyzing today’s secular culture, Pope Benedict said, “There is also something sinister which stems from the fact that freedom and tolerance are so often separated from truth. This is fuelled by the notion, widely held today, that there are no absolute truths to guide our lives.”

 

The consequence of believing in relativism, the Holy Father observed, is that “practically everything” is indiscriminately given value, which makes "experience" all-important.

 

“Yet, experiences, detached from any consideration of what is good or true, can lead, not to genuine freedom, but to moral or intellectual confusion, to a lowering of standards, to a loss of self-respect, and even to despair,” the Pontiff told the youth.

 

In contrast with this loss of values and despair about life, Benedict XVI offered hope.

 

“Dear friends, life is not governed by chance; it is not random. Your very existence has been willed by God, blessed and given a purpose!” he proclaimed.

 

“Life is not just a succession of events or experiences, helpful though many of them are. It is a search for the true, the good and the beautiful. It is to this end that we make our choices; it is for this that we exercise our freedom; it is in this – in truth, in goodness, and in beauty – that we find happiness and joy.”

 

Pope Benedict also tackled the dangers of materialism, exhorting the youth, “Do not be fooled by those who see you as just another consumer in a market of undifferentiated possibilities, where choice itself becomes the good, novelty usurps beauty, and subjective experience displaces truth.”

 

“Christ offers more! Indeed he offers everything! Only he who is the Truth can be the Way and hence also the Life,” Benedict encouraged.

 

In answer to the question of how people can receive what Christ offers them, the Holy Father turned to reflect on Baptism. He reminded the pilgrims that in Baptism, “You were adopted as a son or daughter of the Father. You were incorporated into Christ. You were made a dwelling place of his Spirit.”  Indeed, in Baptism, "you have become a new creation," the Pope said echoing the prayers of Baptism.

 

“Dear friends,” Benedict XVI said, “in your homes, schools and universities, in your places of work and recreation, remember that you are a new creation! ... As Christians you stand in this world knowing that God has a human face - Jesus Christ - the ‘way’ who satisfies all human yearning, and the ‘life’ to which we are called to bear witness, walking always in his light.”

 

The Pope admitted that bearing witness to Jesus is not easy in modern society. He brought to mind how, “There are many today who claim that God should be left on the sidelines, and that religion and faith, while fine for individuals, should either be excluded from the public forum altogether or included only in the pursuit of limited pragmatic goals.”

 

Although this worldview “presents itself as neutral, impartial and inclusive of everyone,” Pope Benedict explained that, “in reality, like every ideology, secularism imposes a world-view.”

 

The consequences of this type of living without God are that, “society will be shaped in a godless image, and debate and policy concerning the public good will be driven more by consequences than by principles grounded in truth,” Benedict warned.

 

He closed his address by noting that the “world has grown weary of greed, exploitation and division, of the tedium of false idols and piecemeal responses, and the pain of false promises.”

 

The answer to this brokenness is “a vision of life where love endures, where gifts are shared, where unity is built, where freedom finds meaning in truth, and where identity is found in respectful communion,” the Pope said.

 

Pointing back the theme of World Youth Day— 'You will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you will be my witnesses’—Pope Benedict exclaimed, “This is the work of the Holy Spirit! This is the hope held out by the Gospel of Jesus Christ. It is to bear witness to this reality that you were created anew at Baptism and strengthened through the gifts of the Spirit at Confirmation. Let this be the message that you bring from Sydney to the world!”

SYDNEY, Australia (Zenit) - The prime minister of Australia welcomed participants in World Youth Day to his country, affirming that faith and reason are "great partners" in history and will be in the future.

 

Prime Minister Kevin Rudd spoke to the youth gathered in Sydney for the 23rd World Youth Day before today's opening Mass celebrated by Cardinal George Pell.

 

"Australia welcomes the youth of the world to Sydney. Australia welcomes the youth of the world to this celebration of faith and this celebration of life. And as prime minister of Australia I welcome you from every land, every path, every continent on this, our planet," he said.

 

The leader told the young people that they are the "light of the world at a time when the world has so much darkness."

 

"Too often in the history of the world when young people traveled in great numbers to other parts of the world, they do so in the cause of war. But you here today are here as pilgrims of peace," he said.

 

The prime minister spoke about the role of faith in today's world and in history.

 

He said: "Some say there is no place for faith in the 21st century. I say they are wrong. Some say that faith is the enemy of reason, I say, also they are wrong. Because faith and reason are great partners in our human history and in our human future. Rich in humanity, rich in scientific progress.

 

"Some say only that which they see wrong in Christianity and in the Church, I say let us speak also about what is right in Christianity and the Church."

 

Rudd noted that the Church began the first schools and hospitals for the poor: "And I say this, that Christianity has been an overwhelming force for good in the world."

 

"Australia is a land of great freedom, a land of many cultures, a land of many faiths," Rudd continued. "But also a land deeply shaped by and proud of this nation’s Christian heritage and future. And within that great Christian heritage, we honor deeply the great Catholic heritage of Australia as well."

 

Catholicism is now the religious tradition with the largest number of adherents in Australia, some 26% of its 20 million people.

 

"You come here as young pilgrims of the world," Rudd added. "I say to you as I conclude, as Prime Minister of Australia, you are welcome guests in our land. May each of you be enriched by your time here among us in Australia just as you enrich Australia by your time here with us. Welcome to Australia."

  Lễ Khai Mạc WYD 2008: Cờ VNCH thay mặt cho quốc gia VN trong đoàn rước quốc kỳ 173 nước.

Buổi chiều Thứ Ba ngày 15/7/2008, từng đoàn các bạn trẻ thuộc mọi ngôn ngữ, mọi Quốc Gia, đều đổ dồn về Barangaroo để tham dự Thánh Lễ Khai Mạc Đại Hội Giới Trẻ Thế Giới lần thứ 23 năm 2008 tại Sydney. Các ngả đường Sydney đều đông đúc các bạn trẻ như một ngày hội lớn...Các ga xe lửa, trạm xe bus, tràn ngập các bạn trẻ...

 

Trước thánh lễ các bạn đă rước cây Thánh Giá của ngày Quốc Tế Giới Trẻ lên lễ đài với những tiếng hoan hô vang dội. Cùng lúc đó là đoàn rước quốc kỳ của 173 quốc gia tham dự trong đó có lá cờ của Việt Nam Cộng Hoà thay mặt cho quốc gia Việt Nam trong ngày Quốc Tế Giới Trẻ.

 

Đúng 4.30 chiều, Thánh Lễ khai mạc Đại Hội Giới Trẻ năm 2008 bắt đầu với đoàn Thánh Giá nến cao, tiếp đến, quư Giám Mục trang nghiêm, và sau cùng là Đức Hồng Y George Pell, Tổng Giám Mục Giáo Phận Sydney chủ tế. Phía bên trái lễ đài, khoảng gần 200 Giám Mục đồng tế, trong đó có 4 Vị Giám Mục Việt Nam. Phía sau Bàn Thờ, Ca Đoàn Tổng Hợp với giàn orchestra vĩ đại phụng vụ Thánh Ca cho Thánh Lễ.

  Church to be rewired after WYD

The National Office for Evangelisation is launching a new program Rewired to help welcome young people back to parishes following World Youth Day.

 

The Director of the Australian Catholic Bishops Conference's National Office for Evangelisation, Marita Winters, herself a veteran of three World Youth Days, said the week would spark a deeper awareness of faith in many young pilgrims and perhaps in some young people who for one reason or another were not able to make the pilgrimage, an ACBC statement says.

 

"As the Body of the Christ, we all want to be able to tap into that level of excitement and raised spiritual awareness that is so often a feature of World Youth Day, and to translate it into a deep and lasting connection with the life of the Church," Ms Winters said.

 

"The National Office for Evangelisation has developed a Catholic program for evangelising young people, called Rewired which provides parishes, schools and other Church groups with an easy to use resource to help welcome young people in the period immediately following World Youth Day, and into the future."

 

The Rewired resource can be run by youth leaders over six sessions and provides an environment for young people to reflect, share and grow in their faith.

 

"Rewired is for young people deeply immersed in their faith as well as those who haven’t had much to do with the Church at all," she said.

 

"It is an opportunity for young people in a parish, school, or on a university campus to invite their peers to look at their faith and tradition in a welcoming environment. It is also a useful tool for a parish which wants to start a youth group."

  Nhóm bạn trẻ Việt Nam từ Đức đi xuyên qua Việt Nam tới dự WYD 2008 ở Sydney

VIỆT NAM - Trong những ngày này, các nhóm bạn trẻ Công Giáo của nhiều nước trên thế giới đang nô nức tới tham dự Đại Hội Giới Trẻ Sydney 2008. Mỗi nhóm khi cất bước hành tŕnh đều mang theo hành trang làm chứng nhân, tuy có những nét khác nhau nhưng qui tụ vào một điểm là giương cao chân dung Chúa Kitô trên đôi tay trẻ của ḿnh.

Xin được giới thiệu hành tŕnh đặc biệt của một nhóm bạn trẻ từ nước Đức, trước khi đến Sydney, đă có chuyến đi xuyên Việt đầy t́nh thương và nụ cười.

Cuộc hành tŕnh của nhóm bạn trẻ Việt Nam từ Đức này không theo một thứ tự thẳng dọc nước Việt Nam mà linh động theo thời gian. Trước khi sang Úc dự đại hội, các bạn c̣n làm một chuyến công tác xă hội giúp học sinh nghèo với một nhóm khác; rồi sau đại hội trước khi trở về Đức lại ủy lạo, tặng quà một trại cùi ở gần Hà Nội rồi lại thăm một làng nghèo ở ven sông Hồng.

Linh mục Paul Phạm Văn Tuấn, tuyên úy của người Công giáo Việt Nam tại hai giáo phận Hildesheim và Hamburg gồm 11 cộng đoàn. Dù lần này chỉ là trưởng đoàn nhóm bạn trẻ nhưng lần trước cha là trưởng ban tổ chức cho Mục Vụ Việt Nam tại ĐHGT- 2005 tại Koeln, Đức quốc.

Để chuẩn bị cho chuyến đi, cha và các bạn trẻ đă in những chiếc áo có logo đại hội, sách Kinh Thánh Tân Ước, dây đeo, tràng hạt và những món quà be bé để giao lưu, trao tặng bè bạn gặp gỡ cho chuyến đi.

Nh́n vào hành tŕnh xuyên Việt của cha và các bạn cũng phải đáng nể. Xuống máy bay là thăm Hà Nội. Các thắng cảnh của đất Hà Thành làm sống dậy trong ḷng bạn trẻ ḷng yêu mến quê hương khó tả.

Thăm giáo phận Thanh Hóa là một việc không thể thiếu của nhóm này v́ các cộng đoàn ở Đức, đáp lời kêu gọi của Đức cha Giuse Chí Linh, đă giúp đỡ giáo phận này khá nhiều khi cơn băo Lekima năm 2007 gây nhiều thiệt hại tại tỉnh Thánh Hóa.

Đi xe bus từ Hà Nội đến Huế. Nhóm đă tung tăng thăm các di tích thắng cảnh ở Huế, trọ tại nhà nghỉ rất đơn sơ. Đến nơi nào đoàn cũng giao lưu thân thiện với các bạn trẻ Việt Nam và xem ra đoàn có vẻ tiết kiệm trong việc chi tiêu để làm việc từ thiện.

Những người đi xuyên Việt, làm sao có thể bỏ qua địa danh Đà Nẵng v́ ở đó có Bảo Tàng Chàm, nơi trưng bày những hiện vật quí giá của văn hóa Chàm nổi tiếng; thưởng ngoại vẻ đẹp phố cổ Hội An….

Hành hương Đức Mẹ La Vang là việc nhiều người đă làm nhưng mỗi người khi đến đó thường mang một tâm t́nh khác nhau, chỉ có Đức Mẹ mới hiểu hết.

Cuộc hành tŕnh thăm miền Bắc và miền Trung, thăm các nhà thờ, các thắng cảnh làm cho người lớn thấy vui, c̣n bạn trẻ sinh ra ở Đức th́ bỡ ngỡ về quê hương của cha mẹ ḿnh.

Cuộc hành tŕnh vào Sài G̣n lại có nhiều thú vị khác, mang hương sắc đặc trưng của miền Nam đất Việt khi đi qua miền sông nước Mỹ Tho, Sa Đéc, Cần Thơ; rồi Sóc Trăng, Minh Hải, Cà Mau.

Mộ cha Trương Bửu Diệp có nhiều người viếng thăm, hẳn là lúc nào cũng đón nhận những lời cầu xin. Không biết tâm t́nh của linh mục trẻ trong đoàn nghĩ ǵ, xin ǵ với cha Bửu Diệp, vị linh mục đă sống tích cực, đă chết v́ bàn tay cường bạo ghét đạo Kitô, đă vang dội tiếng tăm và giúp đỡ nhiều người đến nỗi h́nh ảnh của Ngài xuất hiện trên nhiều bàn thờ của các gia đ́nh Công giáo?

Đến Ṭa Thánh Tây Ninh của đạo Cao Đài và vào địa đạo Củ Chi, dường như nhóm bạn trẻ này muốn nuốt chửng các địa danh đất Việt vào hồn.

Đây là một chuyến đi rất ư nghĩa giúp các bạn trẻ nh́n lại quê hương một cách thực tế, đang khi tham quan các di tích lịch sử Công giáo và các danh lam thắng cảnh, các bạn cũng bỏ giờ ra làm công tác xă hội... Chuyến đi này có phải là một trong những chuyến ra khơi của đời tận hiến đời ḿnh phục vụ tha nhân? Vị linh mục hướng dẫn đă lựa chọn cho ḿnh những tâm t́nh khi thụ phong linh mục như sau:

“Lạy Chúa, Con t́m một con thuyền
giữ ǵn con, che chở con khỏi sóng gió.
Con cần một tấm lưới, cho việc làm hằng ngày,
để liên kết con với mọi người.
Con ước muốn có một cộng đoàn, hướng dẫn con trên cuộc hành tŕnh,
chèo thuyền với con trên biển cả.
Con khát vọng một bến bờ, nơi đó con muốn lèo lái,
Quá khứ của con, hiện tại của con, và cả tương lai của con vào.
Lạy Chúa, con t́m một con thuyền,
Trên thuyền đó con ra khơi với Chúa,
Trên thuyền đó con an tâm hoàn toàn”.

Ngày Giới Trẻ Thế Giới được Giáo Hội Công Giáo tổ chức từ sáng kiến của Đức Thánh Cha Gioan Phaolô II để giới trẻ gặp gỡ, chia sẻ niềm tin nhưng cách làm chứng nhân cho Đức Kitô của các bạn trẻ, tuy có khác nhau nhưng làm cho hành tŕnh của các nhóm đến đại hội như nở hoa, tỏa một thứ hương thơm của ḷng yêu mến quê hương, ḷng bác ái, và ḷng hăng say của người trẻ trước cuộc sống vội vă, hưởng thụ và thực dụng của thế giới hôm nay.

  26 bạn trẻ thuộc giáo xứ OLA, CĐ Mân Côi, Claremont, lên đường đi WYD 2008

CLAREMONT, California - Vào chiều thứ Tư hôm qua 9/7/2008, giáo xứ Our Lady of the Assumption Church ở Claremont, California, đă tổ chức cuộc tiễn đưa 26 thanh niên thiếu nữ trong giáo xứ lên đường đi tham dự Ngày Giới Trẻ Thế Giới tại Sydney. Các em quây quần bên trong ṿng tay yêu thương của cha mẹ và bạn hữu, đọc kinh, cầu nguyện và Cha John Trần Công Nghị đă ban phép lành và cầu chúc các bạn trẻ lên đường bằng an.

Trong chuyến đi năm nay các bạn cũng ghé thăm nước Tân Tây Lan thơ mộng và diễm kiều trước khi đến Sydney. Trong 3 lần Đại Hội Giới Trẻ Thế giới vừa qua, giáo xứ OLA luôn gửi một số các bạn thanh niên thiếu nữ tham gia để chia sẽ và học hỏi kinh nghiệm với các bạn ttẻ khắp thế giới. Các bạn trẻ sẽ trở về ngày 23/7/2008 tới đây.

The send-off for our WYD 2008 pilgrims was celebrated this last Sunday at the 5:00PM Teen Mass. The group of 26 young men and women of Our Lady of the Assumption Church in Claremont, California, departed yesterday evening July 9, 2008 for New Zealand and Australia. With their parents and friends presense. Fr. John Nghi Tran blessed them and wished a safe trip and be empowered with the Holy Spirit. For the last 3 WYDs organized in France, Canada and Germany, our OLA parish always send our young men and women to participate and to share their living faith experiences with others. Please pray for our OLA group.

  Hội Giới Trẻ: Nhóm 117 đến từ Hoa Kỳ được chào đón tại Melbourne

Giáo xứ St Margaret Mary’s Brunswick đón tiếp nhóm 117 từ Hoa Kỳ tới tham dự Đại Hội Giới Trẻ Sydney 2008.

1 giờ trưa hôm nay 9/7/2008 chuyến bay Virgin Blue đă đưa 40 anh chị em gồm các linh mục tu sĩ và anh chị em trẻ từ Hoa Kỳ tới Mebourne để tham dự Đại Hội Giới trẻ của Tổng Giáo phận Melbourne.

Giáo xứ St Margaret Mary đă chào đón và đưa phái đoàn về giáo xứ ăn trưa và đi thăm quan Trung Tâm Thiên Ân, một cơ sở giáo dục dành cho giới trẻ Việt Nam tại Brunswick Melbourne. Sau đó phái đoàn thăm viếng nhà thờ cùng Trung Tâm trẻ Don Bosco trên đường Sydney và lấy xe điện vào thành phố Melbourne.

Tối nay phái đoàn 117 gặp gỡ giới trẻ Salesian thuộc giáo xứ St Margaret Mary trong bữa ăn tối và sinh hoạt chung trong tiếng cười vui hài đồng Úc-Mỹ-Việt giữa cha con và anh chị em không phân biệt tuổi tác địa vị trước khi được các gia đ́nh đón về nghỉ qua đêm.

Chương tŕnh của phái đoàn trong mấy ngày tới là thăm quan thành phố Melbourne, tham dự những sinh hoạt trẻ và thánh lễ đại trào tại Vận động trường Telstra Dome mà ban tổ chức sẽ thu hút khoảng 50,000 người trẻ với 300 Hồng Y, Giám mục và khoảng 1000 linh mục đồng tế.

Bàu khí Đại Hội Giới Trẻ đang bừng lên trong tâm hồn người trẻ tại các giáo phận Úc Châu, đặc biệt tại Melbourne cũng như Sydney. Tại các thủ phủ, các nhóm hành hương đây kia thuộc các sắc dân. ngôn ngữ khác nhau nhưng tất cả cùng chung một niềm tin, một nhiệt huyết của tuổi trẻ muốn bước theo Thầy Chí Thánh Giêsu… Giới trẻ theo chủ đề của Đức Thánh Cha Bênêđíctô XVI “Hăy lănh nhận sức mạnh Chúa Thánh Thần để làm chứng tá cho Chúa khắp nơi”.

  Pope grants indulgences for World Youth Day

Pilgrims at World Youth Day and those from around the world who pray for the ‘spiritual goals of this meeting and for its happy outcome," will be able to receive indulgences, the Vatican announced on Saturday.

 

According to a decree signed by Cardinal James Francis Stafford and Bishop Gianfranco Girotti, respectively penitentiary major and regent of the Apostolic Penitentiary, Pope Benedict XVI will grant two types of indulgences for the international gathering of youth.  

 

Those who "gather at Sydney, Australia, in the spirit of pilgrimage" to participate in celebrations for 23rd World Youth Day, will be able to receive a full or plenary indulgence, the decree says. Partial indulgences will be available to "all those who, wherever they are, will pray for the spiritual goals of this meeting and for its happy outcome."  

 

Catholics believe that due to Jesus’ granting of the powers to “loose and bind” to St. Peter in Mt. 16, the Pope, who is Peter’s successor, can grant indulgences to the faithful. An indulgence erases the temporal punishment that results from sin.    

 

The decree on the indulgences for the coming World Youth Day explains the more recent history of the granting of indulgences. "The youth meeting held in the year 2005 in Cologne, offered the Apostolic Penitentiary an opportune occasion, with the authority of the Supreme Pontiff, to open wide to youth the spiritual treasures of the Church, with the aim of gathering singular fruits of sanctification.”  

 

"Hence, this year, from 15 to 20 July, in Sydney, 'in the great southern land of the Holy Spirit' (according to the expression of John Paul II), will celebrate the 23rd World Youth Day, with the theme: 'You will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you will be my witnesses.'  

 

"Indeed," the decree adds, "young people gathered around the Vicar of Christ will participate in the sacred functions and above all have recourse to the Sacraments of Reconciliation and the Eucharist. In the Sacraments received with a sincere and humble heart, they will earnestly desire to strengthen themselves in the Spirit, and, confirmed by the Chrism of salvation, will openly witness the faith before others even to the ends of the earth. May God grant that the very presence of the Supreme Pontiff among the young people gathered in Sydney express and render it such."  

 

The indulgences may be gained in the following ways:  

 

"The Plenary Indulgence is granted to the faithful who will devotedly participate at some sacred function or pious exercise taking place during the 23rd World Youth Day, including its solemn conclusion, so that, having received the Sacrament of Reconciliation and being truly repentant, they receive Holy Communion and devoutly pray according to the intentions of His Holiness.”  

 

"The Partial Indulgence is granted to the faithful, wherever they are during the above-mentioned meeting, if, at least with a contrite spirit, they will raise their prayer to God the Holy Spirit, so that young people are drawn to charity and given the strength to proclaim the Gospel with their life.”  

 

"So that all the faithful may more easily obtain these heavenly gifts, priests who have received legitimate approval to hear sacramental confessions, should welcome them with a ready and generous spirit and suggest public prayers to the faithful, for the success of the same World Youth Day."

  Weekly Sunday Telegraph column: Popes

During the last few weekends 300 young Catholics have been busy at 51 Sydney sites, shopping centres and thoroughfares, inviting other young adults to attend World Youth Day.

 

They received very few rebuffs and most had heard something of the event.  The Pope was another matter.  Yes, he was known as head of the Catholics; someone like the Dalai Lama?  Given this ignorance, a few words on the role of the Popes, might help fill the void.

 

Jesus Christ is the only Redeemer, for all Christians, including Catholics, but Christ chose 12 men as apostles to lead his community of followers.  St. Peter, the apostles’ first leader, came to Rome and was martyred there as was St. Paul.

 

Therefore the Pope is the 264th successor of St. Peter as head of the Church and bishop of Rome, so constituting the papacy as one of the most amazing institutions in history.

 

China did have an emperor a couple of hundred years before Rome had a bishop, but China has emperors no more!  Hundreds of years before there was a King of England there was a Pope in Rome.  Even in secular terms the papacy is extraordinary, but for Catholics the religious significance is infinitely more important.

 

Peter’s office or role is well attested in the New Testament writings.  In chapter 16 from Matthew’s gospel, after Peter had affirmed that Christ was the Son of God, he was declared to be the rock man on whom the Church is built.

 

The Church is not built on the rock of Peter’s faith, as a popular hymn claims, but on Peter himself despite his faults and failings.  It was Jesus who gave Simon the additional name of Peter, the rock man.  In English the words “Peter” and “rock” have different derivations, but in Greek, Latin and Italian they are almost the same word.  In this passage Peter was given the Keys of the Kingdom and the power to bind and loose.  He always heads the list of the apostles and was commissioned to strengthen his brothers.

 

Pope Benedict is the 265th Pope and history has seen 37 anti-Popes.  From the eighth to the nineteenth century the Popes ruled the Papal States in Central Italy.

There were three difficult periods; first of all in the tenth century with a succession of bad Popes. 

 

Secondly in the late 14th and 15th centuries when there were multiple claimants to the papacy and in the 16th century, the time of the Protestant Reformation, when many of the Popes were formidable rulers, but none of them were over-interested in religion.  Some were corrupt.

 

Despite these lapses the role of the successor of St. Peter has always been vital to Catholic life, as the guarantor of doctrinal fidelity.

 

The story of the Popes is stranger than fiction, but the contribution of the many good Popes far outweighs the sins and mistakes of the minority.

  200 bạn trẻ đă từ Việt Nam đă đến Úc tham dự Đại Hội Giới Trẻ Thế Giới

MELBOURNE - Sau 12g bay, chiếc Cathay Pacific mang nhăn hiệu CX 764 đă đưa đ̣an giới trẻ Việt Nam thuộc tổng giáo phận Sài g̣n, từ sân bay Tân Sơn Nhất đến Melbourne lúc 13g hôm nay ngày 04/07/08.

 

Mấy ngày hôm nay, có khỏang 200 bạn trẻ thuộc các đ̣an Việt Nam từ ba miền Bắc, Trung, Nam đă đến nước Úc để tham dự chương tŕnh sinh họat của giới trẻ Công Giáo Việt Nam trong tuần lễ trước đại hội giới trẻ thế giới. Theo ước tính của ban tổ chức, sẽ có 700 bạn trẻViệt Nam và khách hành hương đến dừng chân tại Melbourne trước khi sang Sydney.

 

Bay dưới bầu trời trong xanh, đất nước Úc xinh đẹp đă trải dài dưới chân của đ̣an đến từ Việt Nam. Bước ra khỏi khu vực cách ly của sân bay Melbourne, đ̣an đă được chào đón bởi những bạn trẻ t́nh nguyện viênViệt Nam với hàng chữ: “WYD 2008 welcome nhóm 1964 Việt Nam”. Sau những giây phút tay bắt mặt mừng, đ̣an có xe đưa rước về trung tâm sinh họat là nhà xứ thánh Giuse Springvale, ở Victoria.

 

Bà con Việt kiều ở giáo xứ này và những vùng lân cận đă hồ hởi đến đón và đưa các bạn trẻ Việt Nam về nhà ḿnh ăn ở trong những ngày diễn ra đại hội. Họ đă tạo ra một nhịp cầu chia sẻ nối liền những quả tim chung một ḍng máu cũng như chung một đức tin.

 

Tất cả những bạn trẻ này đă họp nhau đông đủ tham dự thánh lễ tạ ơn bằng tiếng Việt Nam trên đất Úc v́ sau một chuyến bay mất nửa ngày và những máy bay đă hạ cánh an ṭan. Đ̣an linh mục Việt Nam với 30 cha đồng tế đông chưa từng có tại nhà thờ này. Cộng đ̣an gồm các bạn trẻ, các tu sĩ trẻ người Việt trong cũng như ng̣ai nước tham dự đông đủ trong thánh lễ.

 

Trong bài giảng lễ, cha Gioan Lê quang Việt, trưởng nhóm1964, nhóm chính thức đăng kư của Hội Đồng Giám Mục Việt Nam chia sẻ: như hai người trẻ yêu nhau có thể dễ dàng nhận ra tín hiệu của nhau, Mathêu cũng nhận ra được tín hiệu của Đức Giêsu giữa nơi thu thuế ồn ào và đă từ bỏ nghề để bước đi theo Chúa. Các bạn trẻ Việt Nam phải chăng đă như Mathêu và đă tới có mặt ở nơi đây(?)

 

Nhằm nối kết những người trẻ Việt Nam đến từ ba miền trong nước cũng như người Việt ở nước ng̣ai, cha chủ tế kêu gọi mọi người chúc b́nh an bằng cách thân mật bắt tay nhau. Trong bài hát kết lễ- “Năm xưa trên cây sồi…”- cộng đ̣an đă dủ ḷng thống hối nghe ba lời Mẹ nhắn nhủ: cải thiện đời sống, lần hạt mân côi, tôn sùng trái tim Mẹ. Hướng về đất mẹ, cộng đ̣an cũng tha thiết xin với Mẹ Maria cho đồng bào Việt Nam, cho quê hương nước Việt được “xinh tươi - đức tin sáng ngời”.

  Vietnam up, US down on WYD numbers

A record number of Vietnamese pilgrims will attend World Youth Day this year but US numbers are down.

 

Record for Vietnam at WYD

 

Bishop Joseph Vu Van Thien of Hai Phong, chairman of the Episcopal Commission for Youth of the Vietnam Bishops' Conference, told UCA News on June 29 that 70 bishops and priests, 50 Religious and 244 laypeople from the country's 26 dioceses have already registered with the commission.

 

"The 364 official delegates is a record for Vietnamese delegations, because only tens of delegates attended previous WYD celebrations," he noted.

 

Bishop Thien said many other people who have not registered with the commission will also fly to Sydney for the WYD celebration. They will enter Australia as tourists or people who visit their relatives, he said. He estimated a total of 600 Vietnamese will attend the event.

 

Many people will attend WYD since prices of plane tickets are low, people today are economically better off than before, and it is easier for local people to get passports and visas, the bishop observed.

 

Vietnamese Australians will sponsor free tents around the city, food and local travel expenses to and from WYD events, he added.

 

Pierre Nguyen Cong Lich, a lay Catholic from Vinh, told UCA News three priests and seven lay Catholics aged 20-55 from that northern diocese would fly to Melbourne on July 2.

 

Lich, 47, who has provided free accommodation and computer training for disabled people at his home for years, said, "Most of us will go abroad and attend an international gathering for the first time, so we will try to learn something useful from the celebration and faith practices of young people from other countries."

 

The man, two of whose three children are paralyzed and bedridden, said he will record the WYD events to share with local youths.

 

US down

 

However, the Herald reports the United States says it will be sending 15,000 pilgrims to World Youth Day, the smallest contingent sent by the American church to a World Youth Day celebration in a decade.

 

The number is down from 21,000 expected in March.

 

Exorbitant travel costs, an economic downturn, a buoyant Australian dollar and the recent visit by the Pope to the US are all believed to have played a part in the lower than expected numbers.

 

The US Church issued a statement yesterday saying its contingent would include 1,140 groups from dioceses and parishes, as well as religious associations and schools. More than 500 individuals, including families, would come on their own. Together, the Americans would comprise the largest national delegation to Sydney.

 

The pilgrims will be joined by 50 bishops, including Cardinal Francis George, the president of the US Conference of Catholic Bishops.

 

National celebrations at WYD

 

Many national celebrations are also expected to take place during WYD with up to 30 gatherings across Sydney, WYD organisers say0.

 

An expected 3,000 French will celebrate Bastille Day on 14 July in the Sydney Convention and Exhibition Centre, while 10,000 friends of the Franciscans will meet on Bondi Beach and 8,000 Asian youth will meet in Sydney Olympic Park.

 

"An international World Youth Day is a chance for pilgrims to hold large celebrations with those who belong to the same religious order or language group who would otherwise not have the chance to meet and share their faith," said Fr Mark Podesta, WYD08 spokesperson.

 

"Take the Neo-Catechumenal Way for example. Or the French might want to celebrate in their own language, inviting French speakers to their gathering from France, Africa and the Pacific, as well as Francophone Australians. The Italians will do the same.

 

"Around 142,000 pilgrims will attend one or more of these national and community gatherings.”

  Giới trẻ Giáo phận Mỹ Tho lên đường tham dự Đại hội Giới trẻ Thế giới 2008

MỸ THO - Trong những ngày qua, Giới trẻ Giáo phận Mỹ Tho đă ráo riết chuẩn bị cho việc tham dự Đại hội Giới trẻ Thế giới tại Sydney, Úc, diễn ra từ ngày 15 đến 20-7 tới đây với chủ đề “Anh em sẽ được nhận sức mạnh của Chúa Thánh Thần khi Người ngự xuống trên anh em. Bấy giờ anh em sẽ là chứng nhân của Thầy”. Để hoà vào không khí chung của các bạn trẻ thế giới, giới trẻ Giáo phận Mỹ Tho đă họp mặt, học hỏi và chia sẻ chủ đề tại Văn pḥng Mục vụ Giới trẻ của Giáo phận. Linh mục Gioan Baotixita Nguyễn Tấn Sang, Trưởng ban Mục vụ Giới trẻ của Giáo phận cho biết tham dự Đại hội Giới trẻ Thế giới lần này, đoàn Mỹ Tho có 22 người tham dự trong tổng số 350 người toàn đoàn Việt Nam. Mặc dù mọi chi phí của chuyến đi đều do các bạn trẻ tự túc nhưng các bạn vẫn hăng say và nhiệt t́nh trong mọi công tác dành cho chuyến đi lần này. Đến với Đại hội, các bạn trẻ cùng với quư Cha trong Ban Mục vụ Giới trẻ đă chuẩn bị tiết mục văn nghệ: “ Việt Nam – 4000 năm rực rỡ gấm hoa” để tham dự chương tŕnh văn nghệ giao lưu.

 

Tối nay 3/7/2008, các bạn trẻ sẽ lên đường, và sẽ trở về Việt Nam vào cuối tháng 7 này. Hy vọng các bạn trẻ Giáo phận Mỹ Tho cũng như Giới trẻ Công giáo Việt Nam sẽ gặt hái nhiều thành công và học hỏi nhiều điều tốt đẹp trong chuyến đi này.
